Aside from establishing the Justice Palma Museum, the Foundation commemorates the legacy of Justice Palma through the Justice Palma Award, the launching of a commemorative stamp, the building of a memorabilia room at the Justice Palma High School, the publishing of a story book on the chronicles of her life, and the establishment of the Justice Palma Museum (located at the Department of Justice Building in Quezon City).

THE JUSTICE CECILIA MUÑOZ PALMA AWARD

The Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma Award recognizes the work of legal professionals who are in government service, in development and non-government organization (NGO) work, or in the justice system. These legal individuals embody the civic mindedness of Justice Palma in the areas of human rights, peace, and social justice (i.e. public welfare, voluntary practice, and NGO/social service) and serve as catalysts of change.

The Award is to be given biennially every November to commemorate the birth anniversary of Justice Palma. Winners receive a trophy designed and crafted by world-renowned artists or sculptors and a cash prize to support the awardee’s project or institution.

 

COMMEMORATIVE STAMP

The Philippine Postal Corporation and the Foundation launched the Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma Commemorative Stamp on November 23, 2009 in celebration of her 96th birth anniversary. This project was spearheaded by Foundation Board Chair Dr. Mina Gabor who was also former Secretary of the Department of Tourism, and an avid stamp collector. The unveiling of the stamps was headed by Postmaster General Hector R.R. Villanueva, together with Justice Palma’s children, Tadeo Palma and Pearl Cardema Palma, and members of the Board.

 

100TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY GALA

November 22, 2013 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the most important women in the history of Philippine justice. To celebrate this landmark date, the Foundation staged a grand musical tribute at the Hotel Intercontinental in Makati City, which featured performances from Dulaang Sibol of the Ateneo de Manila High School, the Supreme Court chorale, and singer Arthur Manuntag. Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno graced the event and delivered a powerful, heartfelt speech, saying that “it is not enough for us to honor Justice Celing with words, or through a gathering such as this. We can best honor her by keeping aflame inside us the virtues by which she lived. We can do so through concrete actions, especially during these trying times in our national life.”

 

A LIFE WELL LIVED: THE STORY OF JUSTICE CECILIA MUÑOZ PALMA

As part of the many projects engaged to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Justice Palma, the Foundation initiated the publication of a children’s story book that chronicles the life of Justice Palma. Entitled “A Life Well Lived: The Story of Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma,” the book was written by Gay Ace Domingo with illustrations by Karlene Co. The book retells Justice Palma’s life of virtue and devotion in a manner that appeals and certainly can inspire readers of all ages.

JUSTICE PALMA HALL

Also among the many milestones that marked Justice Palma’s 100th birth anniversary was the inauguration of Justice Palma Hall, the new Department of Justice building located within the Quezon City government complex. The six-story building, inaugurated by Mayor Herbert Bautista and Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, is designed as the “new home of Quezon City prosecutors.” The building will also serve as the venue for the Justice
Palma Museum, which is intended to showcase Justice Palma’s unequaled contribution to the Filipino people through her life and career. The Museum will be designed to serve as an inspiration for those who dispense justice to uphold integrity, justice, and compassion to serve the public.
